Welcome to mamahood
Mamahood Counselling is a virtual counselling clinic with the sole intention of helping Mamas cope with the struggles of Mamahood. This can be anything from the day-to-day challenges to the greater impact Mamahood has on emotional and mental wellness.
And the greatest part about being a virtual clinic? You don’t even have to leave your house or get out of your comfy pants to make it to a session. Yup, that means you don’t need to worry about naps on the go or getting stuck in traffic. We’ll simply schedule a time, hop on the computer and connect by video in a confidential and comfortable setting.
Meet Ashley Hyndman
Over the past 11 years working as a clinical counsellor, everything felt right. The work I was doing felt rewarding; I connected really well with my clients; and I was constantly learning and being challenged. And then things changed. I had a baby.
My entrance into Mamahood shifted everything for me. The first year was absolute bliss on a personal level. My baby girl was my joy, my focus. But after her first birthday, I started to think about my professional life again and decided I wanted something different. I wanted to figure out how to weave my new role as a Mama into my work as a counsellor.
And so I started to get as educated as I could on everything to do with maternal mental health. I began to understand and appreciate on a whole new level the importance of support and having someone to talk to; someone who can relate and who is truly trustworthy. I gained a whole new perspective on what new Mamas need in the postpartum phase and felt this desire to find a way to teach and help communicate this new information. And so, I reorganized my practice and here we are: Mamahood Counselling.
Mamahood is not just about taking care of a baby or child, it’s also about you adjusting to your new identity. Taking care of Mama is equally as important as taking care of baby. And this is what I am aiming to do: take care of Mama!
